Why should you support the BBQ Competition August 21 and 22 in Dupont?

We are coming up the 4th year of the Hudson's Bay Heritage Days BBQ Cookoff and Family Fun held at Clocktower Park near the post office.  August 21 and 22, 11am - 5pm.  FREE entry - FREE Parking

 

This event is produced by Dupont's Pat Tillman Memorial American Legion Post #53 led by Tom Riggs.  Tom is a retired Army Sergeant Major and BBQ pit master who knows BBQ.  His leadership of the American Legion and producing this event allows the Legion to raise limited funds which they use to help the community and children in Dupont.

 

This event has it's BBQ competition which is endorsed by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and ensures that top competitors are there to prepare the great BBQ for the judges but also for you.  Most competitors have amazing side dishes too such as chicken wings, macaroni and even salmon.  There is a beer garden and tent serving craft brews from local breweries.  Live music with bands allows for a great day of BBQ, beer and music.  This year there is no car show which means that the kids zone will be available all weekend with bouncy houses, face painting and more.  

 

This is Dupont's largest yearly event and this year alone, over 1 million views of the event have reached all over the Pacific Northwest through advertising.

 

Why is this so important for citizens of Dupont?  This event beings in many from outside who may not know about all of the shops and stores in the area.  The military at local JBLM have a big presence at the event and as they come into Dupont, they may see many of the stores and restaurants.  This can being in perpetual customers which helps our businesses and of course creates tax revenues that can benefit the entire city. 

 

If you have friends outside of Dupont, encourage them to stay at the local hotels.  Once again, Best Western Hotel has come in as a major sponsor as funds are always needed just to produce the event.   Besides, after a day of beer and music, they can easily walk to the hotel.  Hotel revenues are a huge way that taxes are brought in to support the city.  Invite your friends, you help the entire community.  It's a WIN-WIN for everyone.  At the least, I would suggest visiting their Facebook page and saying thank you for supporting the community.
