On a bright Saturday afternoon, just outside the gates of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Davis family was on a mission to uncover a taste of authenticity and togetherness. Their destination was Viva Mexican Restaurant in Dupont, WA, a place renowned for its genuine Mexican cuisine and inviting atmosphere. Major Mike Davis, along with his wife, Susan, and their two lively kids, Lily and Alex, were ready to dive into a dining experience that promised to be as flavorful as it was memorable.

Upon entering Viva Mexican Restaurant, the Davis family was immediately captivated by the lively and colorful decor, echoing the vibrant spirit of Mexico. The walls were adorned with traditional art and the air was fragrant with the aromas of spices and cooking that promised a delicious meal ahead.

Their culinary journey began with a round of appetizers. The table was graced with a bowl of fresh Guacamole Dip, creamy and ripe, alongside a platter of Nachos Mexicanos, generously topped with a melted cheese blend, black beans, tomatoes, onions, and a choice of shredded chicken, perfectly complementing the crunchy tortilla chips. The camaraderie and excitement around the table were palpable as they shared these starters, each bite a burst of flavor.

For the main course, Major Davis opted for the Carne Asada, a broiled juicy skirt steak served with tortillas, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato, embodying the essence of Mexican grilling tradition. Susan was tempted by the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo, prawns sautéed with mushrooms and carrots in a rich garlic butter sauce, a dish that spoke of the Mexican coastline's bounty. Lily and Alex, eager for a bit of everything, chose the Fajita Taco Salad and a serving of Tacos de Carne Asada respectively, their plates a vibrant mix of colors and textures.

Each dish was a testament to the authentic flavors and craftsmanship of Viva's kitchen, creating a dining experience that was not just about the food, but about the joy of discovery and sharing. As they savored their meals, the Davis family found themselves enveloped in the warmth and joy that comes from a meal enjoyed together, away from the demands of military life.

Leaving Viva Mexican Restaurant, the Davis family felt a deep sense of gratitude and contentment. The restaurant had offered them a slice of Mexico right in the heart of Dupont, near Joint Base Lewis-McChord. It was an experience that they would carry with them, a reminder of the day they came together to explore and enjoy the authentic flavors of Mexican cuisine at Viva.  They intend to return often.
